Hearing God Retreat
“Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
How do you do this?
If you are like me, this has to be intentional. Be still? It doesn’t just happen. Life is too busy. There are too many distractions.
Good intentions can be sidetracked. Something unexpected will happen and ruin my intentions to spend more time with the Lord.
There is an inner pressure to be productive. As an achiever, I have to be doing something. Even in my quiet time, I used to find myself reading long passages and going through my prayer list. I was accomplishing a lot. However, I didn’t sense God. I was missing really knowing Him – understanding His heart and sensing His will for me.
Does this ever happen to you?
Now the Lord has been teaching me to come away with him throughout the day. Just talking with and listening to God. It is the “pray without ceasing” stuff. This has become natural. More like breathing. “My sheep listen to my voice, I know them and they follow me.” (John 10:27).
What about you?
Do you find yourself drowning in activity? Are you tired and sometimes wonder if God is there? Do you hear God speaking to you?
Consider getting away to a Hearing God Retreat. These are offered because God said to provide them. Yes, God.
About five years ago as I was praying and resting with God, He showed me a map with little dots on it. I didn’t understand what he was showing me. I asked the Lord what he wanted me to see. He told me he had strategically placed his chosen ones, but they were not listening to him. He said, “I want you to help them hear me.”
“What me? How do I do this Lord? Who am I?”
I still tear up when I recall this moment. Our Father was showing me that his chosen ones were not listening to him. Not only did I feel his hurt, but also his love for his chosen. He wanted to spend time with them, but they were too busy. This included me at times, too.
I wasn’t sure what to do with this knowledge or this assignment. However, I am His witness. I asked the Father to show me what to do. Of course, God started showing me.
He brought people who would ask me how I hear God. He gave me an acrostic to help others hear. He had me start writing down stories of him answering prayers and guiding my steps. I have dozens of stories.
God wants to spend time with you. He wants to lavish his love on you. He has plans for you.
Consider attending a Hearing God Retreat. The next one is scheduled for April 11 and 12 at Riverbend Retreat Center in the Cedar Bluff Lodge.
